The graduation of a PhD student depends on factors that might not be directly related to personal skills and efforts. A student working on his/her research for an expected PhD research of 4 years might still not graduate because of a system mostly based on publications, which not every student may get in the time allotted. The funding of the research in many cases would end but not the research. Is the current environment for a PhD candidate hostile for him/her?
